excellent little ice maker!

for 2 years we suffered the problems of owning a Manitowac SM50 machine. The repair man was out at least a dozen times, and finally, the machine 'died' and we refused to replace it with another one. (Warranty was up, of course) EXPENSIVE LESSON LEARNED After searching for a machine that would meet our needs, I reluctantly ordered this little Ice Maker. WHAT A PLEASANT SURPRISE! We've had it for one month and it's been working like a CHARM! PROS: It WORKS!!! Makes ice QUICKLY Recycles the water when the ice melts Makes different sized ice cubes (we like the medium size) Does not require plumbing to run - no water line, or drain needed. CONS: Stands on your counter and takes up a good chunk of space (we keep it in our 'butler's pantry') Must refill the water manually (no water line plumbing needed - may be a PLUS for most) After reading other reviews, we decided to do a very thorough cleaning of the machine prior to using..... using the vinegar/water manufacturer's recommendation, we ran the cleaning cycle 3 times (only took 5-10 minutes each time). Then ran clear water through the same number of times. We had no after-taste of the ice. We use only filtered water for this machine. I have a Brita pitcher that does the job. All in all, a GREAT machine, and we are very happy with it! Would purchase again!

Just what I needed

We have an icemaker in our refrigerator which is fine for our family, but we entertain groups of 15 or more about once a month and were always having to purchase ice (very inconvenient)for our drinks. I didn't want an icemaker that had to be wired and plumbed into the kitchen. After a lot of research and comparison, I purchased this one. It is just fine for what I need it for. I put it on the counter in the laundry room by the sink, fill it up and plug it in and it quickly makes all the the ice we need.

This machine works great, ice is a little cloudy but not a problem. It uses little enough power to hook it up to a 12 volt battery with a power inverter. It uses 3.5 amps max, so a 700 watt power inverter is quite sufficient I also plan to use it in the event of a power failure, I have a small gas generator that is too small to run a household refrigerator, but with this machine I can make more than enough ice for two people to survive on, including ice for cocktails. I was really amazed how fast it makes ice. Packaging was very good with no damage (double boxed). Get some white vinegar to clean before first use, as per instructions.

A Great Addition to Our Summer Home!

We always have a problem keeping up with the ice needs during the summer months and this was a terrific help this year. The smallest ice cubes were great for making frozen drinks. It sits neatly on the counter and fits right in with the look of our stainless steel appliances. It does make some noise but is not terribly loud. Everyone who came in the house loved it and I think there will be many more of these in the family next year!

Greatest Ice Maker, look no longer

After a long research on the internet and several phone calls for the ideal Ice Maker, I finally decided to purchased the Sunpentown IM-101 portable ice maker. I have been using it straight, non stop for about 25 days. I have not turned if off since I unpacked and plugged it. The Sunpentown IM-101 works extremely well. I needed an ice maker in our apartment to produce ice cubes for a specific ice cooling machine, which my husband has been using after an orthopedic surgery. This ice maker machine has been the God sent to our family. The only drawback is that the machine, as with any other of its kind, is a bit too large. However, as far as operating it, its very easy. Just add the water, plug it in the AC, and it does all the work for you. I love the shape of the ice it produces, which is always great for our ice tea or cold drinks. I strongly recommend it. I had read several reviews prior to purchasing the Sunpentown IM-101. I did encounter very negative review on other brands of countertop ice maker machines and it made me very concerned about acquiring one. When I received this machine in the mail, i made sure to save its original shipping boxes just in case I needed to return it. Needless to say, the shipping boxes were already destroyed. The machine is great. I strong suggest you to purchase this particular one and look no longer.
