I should have purchased this Soleus Dehumidifier years ago instead of suffering with the humidity that is still seeping into my home on rainy or humid days no matter what the temperature is outside! After turning on my Solus it removed 22 pints of water out of the air every 12 hours & still is daily! It is extremely easy to empty when full & to easily program to the percentage of humidity you desire in your home! Normal is between 35 to 40 percent as the appropriate percent when the temperature outside is 20 degrees or above. This dehumidifier is consistent, reliable, & steady. I just purchased this Dehumidifier in the last couple of weeks, but I really like it so far. I have had some bad luck in the past with my dehumidifier purchases, but hope that this one turns the corner. This unit is fantastic by design and in operation: -It removes the humidity well and the humidistat is accurate. -The bucket removes and re-attaches easily and securely for emptying. -It is by far the quietest dehumidifier that I have ever owned. -When the unit has reached the humidity setting, it will first shut down the compressor then shut off the fan. I have never had this option on any of my other units, the compressor would shut off but the fan would always run. I hope that it lasts, because my initial thoughts on this purchase are outstanding. It will surprise you by how quiet it operates.

Our Kenmore 50 pint (Model 580.54501400) died after 7 years. I looked at the dehumidifier reviews on Consumer Reports and the top selling models on Amazon and Sears. All seem mixed. We have been really happy with our old Soleus 25 pint dehumidifier, especially how quiet it is. Plus it is still running after 5+ years, we decided to take a chance on this one despite the lack of reviews out there. I have to say that my initial impressions are very good. Noise: extremely quiet. In fact, when I first turned it on, I wasn't even sure that the compressor is really running. Only after I turned the fan level to low, could I hear the hum of the compressor. In comparison, I can always tell that our old Kenmore's compressor was running due to the vibration noise. Fan noise on high setting is noticeable, but still far quieter than our Kenmore. On low, I can't even tell it is running a few feet away. Control: Humidistat goes from 35% and above. And you can also run it in continuous mode, i.e., compressor always on. Humidistat is reasonably close to reading on a Oregon Scientific wireless temp/hygrometer in the same basement. Energy savings: Current draw is around 5.8-5.9A according my kill-a-watt meter, although spec claims 7.3A. Humidistat seems to turn off compressor and fan in two stages. First it will turn off the compressor (I can tell because the current draw goes from 5.9A to 0.5A with only the fan on), and eventually it will turn off the fan. Does not have energy savings model like the Kenmore (3 hr on/ 3 hr off, or 6 hr on/ off), although if I really need that in addition to the humidistat, I can plug it into a digital timer. Efficiency: In less than three hours, it brought the humidity level from 67% to 43% in our smallish basement. Bucket: easy to remove and insert. Our Kenmore occasionally needs to be slammed back in with a fist. Hose: screwed-in garden hose fitting is built-in compared to our old Kenmore which uses a section of rigid plastic tubing that you have to insert through the back panel. We had problems with the plastic tubing coming loose and water leaking. Won't be a problem with this one. Construction: casing is all plastic as far as I can tell. Our old Kenmore was metal casing with plastic front and back panel. Can't comment on longevity, but if it dies in a couple years, I will update my review. One thing worth noting is that the label prominently displays "by GREE". It turns out that it is the largest A/C manufacturer in China. So on the plus side they probably know a thing or two about making compressors and care enough about their reputation to slap it on the label, but if you are a buy American kind of guy, time to look elsewhere
