Great for a damp winter apartment

I just moved into my apt and when winter came around I started to notice the windows fogging up. When it got colder around December water began to pool around the window sills to the point where I couldn't close my blinds. If I opened the windows the problem would go away, but that doesn't work in the dead of winter. I had to sponge off the excess water 2 times a day. My sheets felt damp and the apt was getting uncomfortable. I wasn't sure what to do about this problem, and since I'm a renter I didn't really want to spend a lot of money dealing with it either. A couple of weeks later I started to notice mold growing in my closets and I really started to worry. I did some research and decided a dehumidifier would be the easiest fix. My 1 bed apt is about 800 sq ft, I wasn't sure if I needed two units, one for the living room and one for the bedroom so I started with the 40 pint unit to see if it was enough.
The Soleus is working perfectly and I no longer wake to up to soggy windows and damp sheets. It's enough to dehumidifier the entire apt, and since I know the cause of the problem is the steam heater, I place the dehumidifier right next to the biggest heater and it's perfect. I only have about 1/4 of the bin filled with water on a daily basis, so I don't worry about overflowing. I set it to medium humidity and it's very comfortable. I don't have to use it all the time if the temperature outside is over 45.
I like that the unit is small, portable, and quiet. I don't notice it next to me in the living room. I got the package from amazon quickly and all I had to do was hit the on button. Once a week when I vacuum my home, I just pop out the back and vacuum the filter. I rinse the bin every so often. It's really simple maintenance.

Very quiet compared to all other dehumidifiers that I have looked at. Lower energy use as well

I purchased this unit over three years ago and it works just as good today as it did when it was new.
Small, quiet, efficient in removing the moisture in the basement of my condo. Set on automatic and let it do its job.
The only complaint is the small holding container -- real damp weather, the pan fills up and has to be emptied every few hours. When fill, it automatically shuts off.
Overall, I would wholeheartedly recommend this dehumidifier for a moderate (1,100 sq. foot) basement.

I am very happy with this product. It is simple to use and very quiet. I empty the water whenever I go down to the basement and then turn it back it on. It only takes a minute or so because I have a sink in the basement. My basement was very damp last summer because of a leak and I needed to empty it twice a day until the basement dried out. I didn't use it all winter. I use it now whenever it's humid. It does a great job. The tank always fills up and turns itself off.

Soleus Air CFM-40 E 40-Pint Dehumidifier with Humidistat
WOW! I can't tell you how difficult it was for me to for me to find a quiet dehumidifier. This unit has it all. It's whisper quiet, it sucks water out of the air like a sponge, it's small, it's very nice looking and uses only 330 Watts. Tell me, what more could you ask??
I put this unit in my living room and it covers a total of 4 rooms/700SqFt perfectly.
Within a period of about 6 weeks, before I bought this unit, I tried a Frigidaire Frigidaire FDL601P 60-Pint Portable Dehumidifier and a DeLonghi DE500P Dehumidifier - 50 Pint with Condensate Pump. They were both much larger, very loud and drew twice the power of the Soleus unit.
As an engineer, I really appreciate a well designed and manufactured product. Clearly, this is one worthy of such praise. Almost all other dehumidifiers follow the same model, big, boxy, loud, and for the most part, primitive in design. The Soleus is different. Their folks sat down with a clean sheet of paper a designed a terrific product. I've had mine for 3 weeks and wouldn't want to do without it.
I tried hard to buy this locally, on Long Island, NY, but no chance. I bought mine online from a retailer in Oregon...they were great.
